Elma Louise Dlask (Pudil)

Elma Louise Dlask, 98, of the Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Friday, October 23, 2009. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Bishop Michael Perry of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 26, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl (Ken) Quillin and Karen Dlask both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kevin (Stacey) Pidima, Mark (Queta) Quillin, Dyanna (Scott) Davidson and Paul (Sara) Quillin; great grandchildren, Lauren Pidima, Shawn Pidima, Barbie Alvarado, Victor Alvarado, Susie Alvarado, Ernie Alvarado, Alex Davidson, Ashley Davidson, Maddie Davidson and Grace Quillin; and niece, JoAnn Smith.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Gladys Petrik; and three nephews, Levern, Duane and Ron Dostal.
Born November 6, 1910, in Swisher, Iowa, Elma was the daughter of Charles and Stella (Castek) Pudil. She graduated from the old Cedar Rapids Washington High School and attended Coe College for two years. On August 18, 1932, she married Lumir Dlask in Aledo, Illinois. He died July 1, 1993.
Elma taught school in Hills, Iowa, and with her husband, Lumir, owned and operated Dlask Super Valu.
Elma enjoyed belonging to the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the El Kahir Shrine Widows Club, the El Kahir Shrine Womens Auxiliary, the Ambar Grotto Auxiliary, Malta Chapter of the Order of Easter Star where she was past Matron, the Daughters of the Nile where she served as past Queen, the Iowa Grocers Association, Linn County Historical Society, St. James United Methodist Church and the Czech Heritage Foundation. She was an avid reader, loved history, especially about Abraham Lincoln and crocheting. She loved her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and her cats and dogs.
Memorials may be made in Elma’s memory to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or to
a charity of the donor’s choice.
