Elsie Elizabeth Goodall, 98, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Aaron Telecky. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the funeral home and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen (Bud) Hunter, Cedar Rapids; her stepson, Darrell (Kathy) Goodall, Koshkonong, Missouri; a sister, Leone Halstead, Spokane, Washington; grandchildren, Stephen (Jane) White, Bloomington, Minnesota, Sara (Tim) Miller, Prinsburg, Minnesota, Lea (Brad) Hanson, Chetek, Wisconson, Dennis (Amy) Goodall, Koshkonong, Missouri, Tammy Pusateri and Bart (Kristine) Chrisman, Cedar Rapids; 14 great-grandchildren; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Goodall on January 20, 1993; two sons, LeRoy Alden and Robert Alden; her parents; six brothers; three sisters; stepdaughter, Nancy Morrow; and stepson, Larry Goodall.
Elsie was born April 29, 1910, in a sod house near Millboro, South Dakota, the eldest child of Claude and Bessie Warner. She moved to Iowa in 1928 and married John C. Alden. They were later divorced. Elsie married Floyd Goodall in 1966. She worked as a telephone operator in Shellsburg during the 1940’s and retired from Iowa Electric in 1976.
After being born in a sod house, Elsie lived the last seven years of her life at Kingston Hill, the Victorian mansion at 202 12th Street NW, where she was treated like a queen.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy and the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their care of Elsie during her last days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy, Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or to Kingston Hill in memory of Elsie.
