Ernest F. Sulek, 90, of 1145 Mitchell Drive, Marion, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at home following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.
Survivors include a son, Leon A. Sulek and wife Diana of Lombard, Illinois; a daughter, Ellen L. Kepler and husband John of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Cherie Marriott and husband Robert, Kim Stenberg and husband Eric, Jessica Colin and Jennifer Sulek; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dr. Arthur Sulek.
Ernest was born March 12, 1914, outside of Shueyville, Iowa, the son of Frank and Bessie (Marek) Sulek. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Machinist?s Mate from January 18, 1944 - November 21, 1945. He owned and operated many taverns including the Log Cabin, Green Gable, Sulek?s Tap, Springville Sulek?s Tap, Clarence Sulek?s Tap and Central City Sulek?s Tap. Ernest worked hard all his life. He enjoyed his home and his biggest joy was his family, children and grandchildren.
