Ervin E. Bohrer, 90, of Toddville, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2007, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Laura Smith. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville with military honors by Toddville American Legion Post No. 674.
Survivors include his son, Dale of Toddville; and daughter-in-law, Patty Bohrer-Gothe and husband Allyn of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Wanda Gibbs (Burdette) of Strawberry Point; a brother, Dewey Bohrer of California; four grandchildren, Daryll (Beth) Bohrer of Marion, Darwin (Noree) Bohrer of Orlando, Florida, Deborah (Eric) Eldred of Parker, Colorado, and Douglas (Joy) Bohrer of Palatine, Illinois; eleven great-grandchildren, Faith, Tyler, Hanna, Tiffanie, Deanna, Chloe, Julia, Annika, Connor, Cayla, and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Orlean; a son, Dean; two sisters, LaDessa and Laura; and two brothers, Homer and James.
Ervin was born February 11, 1917, the son of Harry and Neva (Heiner) Bohrer in Dennison, Texas. He was raised in southeastern Oklahoma and attended college in Stillwater, Oklahoma. On September 23, 1942, he married Orlean E. Rose in Toddville. She died September 18, 2004. Ervin worked at Beechcraft and North American aircraft plants in Wichita, Kansas before entering the service. He served with the Army Air Corps during WWII as a tower operator at a pilot training base in Waco, Texas. After the service, he worked at Bordens Dairy and Collins Radio, before becoming a dairy farmer in the 1950?s.
Ervin was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, Disabled American Veterans, and International Flying Farmers. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, and working on the farm with his family.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial fund has been established in Ervin?s memory.
