Erwin "Shoey" Lee Schuettpelz

Erwin “Shoey” Lee Schuettpelz, 90, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marion. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Erwin was born on September 22, 1935, in Lane, South Dakota, the son of Elmer and Laura (Noltensmeier) Schuettpelz. He was a graduate of Alpena High School in South Dakota. On September 21, 1957, Erwin was united in marriage to Hazel Harlene Beresford in Marion. They were happily married for 62 years when Hazel sadly passed away in 2020.

Erwin began his career working at the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad, before working for FMC. He then worked for many years as a custodial engineer at the Cedar Rapids Community School District, mostly at Franklin Middle School. Erwin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Erwin is survived and lovingly remembered by his three children, Debra (Kim) Offerman of Delran, New Jersey, David (Renae) Schuettpelz of Cedar Rapids, and Denise Bammert of Marion; five grandchildren, Natasha Offerman (Andy Seyffert), Nicole Offerman, Michael Offerman, Isabella Bammert, and Andrew Reed; and step-grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph, Jayson, and Brei.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; sister, Irene (Kenneth) Larson; and son-in-law, Chuck Bammert.

Memorials in Erwin’s memory may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
