Eugene "Gene" S. Henry

Eugene “Gene” S. Henry died peacefully at home in Marion, Iowa, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 96. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Oak Shade Cemetery, in Marion, with Reverend Jeff Frohner officiating.

Gene was born on September 16, 1928, in Foley, Minnesota, the son of Charles Albert and Agnes O. (Pehrsson) Henry. He was a 1946 graduate of Foley High School. On December 17, 1955, Gene was united in marriage to Theresa A. Jahren from Ft. Worth, Texas. To this union, four children were born, Karla, Mark, Stephen and Karen. Gene spent 35 years in the Christian ministry. He was ordained from Augustana Theological Seminary, at Rock Island, Illinois, in 1956. After which, he served in the following parishes: Bethany and Trinity Lutheran Churches, Siren, Wisconsin; St. Paul Lutheran Church, East Chicago, Indiana; St. Mark Lutheran Church, Sioux City, Iowa; and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa. During his ministry, Gene also served on many boards and committees of the church and community, too numerous to mention. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Karla A. (Murray) Driggs of Wentworth, South Dakota, Mark D. (Terri) Henry of Erie, Illinois, Stephen P. Henry and Karen M. (Thomas) Cronk both of Marion; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Lana) Cronk, Dylan Cronk, Jacob Driggs, Lindsay (Dustin) Krause, Jordan (Allyson) Henry, Brandon (Heather) Johnson and Derrick (Brooke) Johnson; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister and a brother.
