Franklin J.Vane, 88, of 2443 Victoria Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, May 8, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2006, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Nancy (Larry) Hanson of Marion; two grandchildren, Ryan and Robyn Hanson; a great grandchild, Bailey Hanson; nephews, Bruce and Robert Boyson, Robert Straughn III, and Eric Straughn; and a niece, Linda Denny. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pauline Boyson.
Franklin was born May 20, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, to Wencil and Emma (Hurka) Vane. He graduated from Washington High School and Cedar Rapids College of Business. On March 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Straughn at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church. He was in inside sales for Dee Electronics for 30 years. Franklin was a member of First Lutheran Church and the VFW.
