Fredrick LeRoy Cress, 78, of Center Point, Iowa, died July 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. Service: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial: Oliphant Cemetery, rural Center Point.
Survivors include his daughter, Laurie Daubenberger of Center Point, Iowa; son, Kevin Cress of Center Point, Iowa; grandchildren, Dana (Jason) Sullivan of Jesup, Iowa, Dawn (Corey) Kleve of Winthrop, Iowa, Athan (Ashley Joiner) Cress of Urbana, Iowa, Dalton and Ryan Cress of Center Point, Iowa; great grandchildren, Jude and Abe Sullivan and Lexie, Leah and Braxton Kleve; sister, Janette Rhodes of Forney, Texas; brothers, Steve (Deenie) Cress of Frisco, Texas, Michael (Priscillia) Roseberry of Central City, Iowa, David Roseberry of Fairfax, Iowa, and Vernon (Velma) Roseberry of Center Point, Iowa; and special friend Joan Nielsen of Center Point, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; step-parents, Paul Roseberry and Jessie Cress; twin sons, Kent and Kenneth; granddaughter, Davian Daubenberger; brother, Jack Cress; and sister, Shirley Oliphant.
Fred was born May 24, 1936, in Center Point, Iowa, the son of Jack and Bernita Cress. He was a graduate of Center Point High School in 1954. Fred was united in marriage on June 8, 1958, to Joyce Morris in Center Point. He took over the family trucking company in 1961 and later drove semi over the road for Nash Finch in Cedar Rapids where he continued until his retirement in 1999. After retirement Fred enjoyed keeping busy and drove semi for Carson Grain and spent his winters in Texas with friends.
In his younger years, Fred enjoyed tractor pulling and was well known with his Oliver 88 “Freeloaders Toy.” He enjoyed fishing and camping, a cold beer or a stiff drink. He did not appreciate cold weather and loved going south in the winter. But most of all, Fred enjoyed time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family for a memorial fund for Fred.
