A visitation will take place from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026 at Infuse Church of the Nazarene (formerly the First Church of the Nazarene), 3113 1st Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at the church the following day at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow the service. Inurnment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Gale was born on November 22, 1949, in Center Point, Iowa, to Clarence and Bertha Andrews. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1970-1971, and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. In 1982, Gale married Gloria Jean Heldreth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked as a carpenter for over 50 years, and sheared sheep in his early life.

Gale enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, and caring for his chickens and rabbits (“furry chickens”). He tended to two acres of land, planting and raising trees, and was an avid Hawkeyes, Yankees, and Vikings fan. No one was a stranger to Gale, and he valued spending time with his friends and family.

Faith was exceedingly important to Gale. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, serving in many roles. His fingerprints were all over the church. He particularly loved Work and Witness trips.

Gale is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Lisa Takes, Denise (Sean) Fink, Chad Andrews, Remi Andrews, and Christie (Michael Sanchez) Andrews; grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, Logan, Alana, Aislin, Jack, Jordynn, and Kaycey; and great-grandchildren, Ava Jo, Maren James, Miles, Easton, Mya, and Genevieve on the way; siblings, Gerald (Sandy) Andrews, Eva (Loren) Kisling, and Jimmy (Jolinda) Andrews; and honorary brothers, Randy Hoy and Paul Michelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertha; siblings, Delbert Andrews, Lorene Leaven, Marvin Andrews, Loren Andrews, and Greg Andrews; and honorary brother, Bob Readnour.
