George N. Politis, 88, of 2425 Teresa Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 16, 2009, following a short illness at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, with his family by his side. Services: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #788. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; daughter, Nancy (Russ) Franck of Cedar Rapids; son, Larry (Pat) McNeal of Manchester; three grandchildren, Chelsea Franck, Kelly McNeal and Mike McNeal; and three great grandchildren, McKayla Beltz, Shae Beltz and Brianna McNeal.
George was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne McNeal; sister, Mary Anderson; and brothers, Myron Politis and Constantine Politis.
Born February 8, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, George was the son of Nicholas and Mary Ellen (Shelley) Politis. On April 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Wilma Zach in Little Rock, Arkansas. George served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. After 32 years of employment, George retired from Wilson Foods.
George was a member of P3 Union Hall, the VFW Post #788, and the Jim Beam Bottle Club.
