Gregory V. Roosevelt, 61, of Shueyville, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in his home following a short battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fairfax, by Father Dustin Vu. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a scripture service at 4 p.m. Burial: Shueyville Cemetery, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Dr. Corey (Andy) Kelly of Sherrill, Iowa and Brian Roosevelt of Schaumburg, Illinois; mother, Doris Roosevelt of Ackley, Iowa; father, Quentin (Betty) Roosevelt of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Skyler Kelly, Liam Kelly and Bryce Kelly; and cousin, Hal Gronseth of Perry, Georgia.
Born September 8, 1947, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Gregory was the son of Quentin and Doris (Postma) Roosevelt. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On January 25, 1975, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Warnes in Rockford, Illinois. He was a defense contractor for 32 years for the U.S. government.
Gregory was a member of the Marion Bike Club and for over 20 years rode in RAGBRI. Other joys were canoeing, traveling and working crossword puzzles.
