Harley A. Squires passed away at home on Thursday, June 24, 2010. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Harley at St. Pius X Church in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. by the Most Reverend William Franklin and Rev. Donald Klein. Family will greet friends one hour before service at St. Pius Hall. There will be a private burial at a later date. Arrangements by: Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Elvarose, and their six children: Patricia, Michael (Linda), Scott (Emma), Susan (Robert), Lynne, and Lori (Chris). Also surviving are his 21 grandchildren: Patrick, Amy (Matt), Matthew (Molly), Daniel, Ann, Joseph, Ellie, Rebekah, Jonathan, Christina, Catherine (Justin), Caroline, Cameron, Corey, Nicole (Brian), Robert (Abby), Michael, Melissa (John), Alex, Matthew V., Rita; and 15 great-grandchildren: Anna, Kevin, Alexander, Benjamin, Will, Quinn, Sam, Cheyenne, Avery, Ava, Patricia, William, Braxton, Maddox, and Jacob.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Gladys and Esther; brother Clyde; son-in-law Kevin; and granddaughter Mary Elizabeth.

Harley was born March 17, 1924, in Arlington, Iowa to Almon and Olive (Tripp) Squires. He married Elvarose Franklin on August 25, 1951. Harley retired from Iowa Electric Light and Power after 33 years and later volunteered at both Ellis and Twin Pines golf courses. He was a member of St. Pius X Church and was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 909. Harley was a World War Two veteran and a member of the American Legion, Hanford Post 5.
