Harold Dale “Dick” Trotter, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Dick and Janet will have a combined Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
Dick was born on July 21, 1933, in Blairsburg, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Hazella (Walker) Trotter. After graduating from high school and completing his undergraduate education at the University of Northern Iowa, Dick earned his advanced master’s degree from Oregon and the University of Iowa. On September 6, 1958, Dick was united in marriage to Janet Lee Reetz in Nashua, Iowa. Together, they raised their two daughters in Cedar Rapids.
Dick honorably served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. While fulfilling his military duties, he also hosted his own radio show. Dick was a schoolteacher at the Cedar Rapids School District until his retirement. He also participated in various roles with KCRG as a TV sports caster and hosted a radio show, the Pigskin Parade for WMT, showcasing Iowa football post-game coverage. He commentated some of the Iowa basketball games and tournaments. Professionally, Dick made considerable contributions to the world of education and athletics. He served as the Public Relations Director at Coe College in Cedar Rapids and additionally shared his love for sports by coaching wrestling and tennis. He was also passionate about golf. Dick was an avid sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes
Dick's travels, especially to Europe with his wife, hold a special place in his heart. He found great pleasure in casino trips. He devoted time volunteering at his church, Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was a lifelong member. Dick will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dick is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Lori (Dan) Gaab of Galena, Illinois, and Sallie Entwistle of Lone Tree, Colorado; grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Nicholas, Tiffany, Cameron, and Colton; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years, Janet Trotter; two sisters; and two brothers.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Pastor Roger; his nurse, Dane; social worker, Brian; and Dr. Gisselman for their outstanding care of Dick. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
