Harold E. Kennedy, 85, of 202 35th St. Dr., died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at home, following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Duane Hix. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Dan Kennedy (Sheila Koss) of Denver, Iowa and Tom Kennedy of Clarkridge, Arkansas; a sister, Lucille Keeney of Carlisle; five grandchildren, Scott, Lisa, Lori, Ben and Matt; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edwin, Dean and Olin; and two sisters, Eva and Neva.

Harold was born November 17, 1920, the son of Russell and Bertha (Decker) Kennedy in Des Moines. On May 24, 1947, he married Beverly Motter in Iowa City. Harold served with the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate 1st Class during WWII. He worked as a switchman for the Milwaukee Railroad for forty-one years. Harold was a member of VFW Post No. 788, a sixty year member of United Transportation Union and a member of Crescent Masonic Lodge #25 AF & AM of Cedar Rapids.

Harold was instrumental in building Christ Church and Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church serving on the building committees and as deacon and elder. They then joined Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Garnett Place.
