Harry Louie Simonsen, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion, just 10 days before his 89th birthday. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites have taken place. There will be no public visitation or services. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Oak Shade Cemetery, in Marion.

Harry was born on October 17, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one of six children to Clyde Christian and Verna Pauline (Kee) Simonsen. He attended a one-room country school in Marion and later graduated from the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri. Harry was a United States Army veteran and served honorably from 1955 until 1958. He had a career in finance during his early years before finding his true passion as Sexton at Oak Shade Cemetery, until his retirement. Harry was a loyal and devoted Green Bay Packers fan who thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son, Chris Simonsen (Jayne Adams-Griffin) of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Elizabeth “Liz” Simonsen (Abe Parker) and Jonathon “Jon” Simonsen all of Bloomfield, Iowa: their mother and former daughter-in-law, Shannon Simonsen (Nolan Eakins) of Bloomfield; brother, Weaver Simonsen of Valley Center, California; sister, Narda Murphy of Williamston, Michigan; and a host of extended family members including many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Pauline Simonsen; three sisters, Karen Simonsen, Wanda Schlatter and Phyliss Curtis; three brothers-in-law, Duane Schlatter, Sam Curtis and Patrick Murphy; and his loving companion and special friend, Joy Wilson.
