Hattie Irene Bonebrake, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday September 19, 2026, at her unit at Corridor Crossing Assisted Living facility. Irene was born July 26, 1929, the daughter of Leonard and Maggie (Owens) Lavender in N.C.

Irene married Raymond E Brubaker in 1946 in Marion, N.C. and moved to Vinton, Iowa. Ray and Irene later moved to Cedar Rapids in 1963 where she gave birth to their only child, Kevin Brubaker. Raymond E Brubaker passed away August 29, 1979.

As a widower, Irene met and married Raymond G. Bonebrake, Sr., on June 18, 1983. He died September 20, 2008.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Debra) Brubaker of Plano, Texas; Ling-Ling (Roger’s wife) Brubaker of Norfolk, VA; Raymond G. (Barbara) Bonebrake, Jr. of New Sharon, Iowa; Rex (Jackie) Bonebrake of Marietta, Georgia; Sean (Aimee) Bonebrake of Tipton, Iowa; a sister, Barbara (Don) Roland of Clemmons, N.C.; sister Joyce Nettles of Nebo, N.C.; sister Mary Sue Sigmon of Nebo, N.C.; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and dear friends, Ruth Hinder; Nate & Marie Rompot; Cliff & Deb Voelker; June Chesley; and Pastor Mark and Joyce Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; stepsons, Roger Brubaker; David Brubaker; and Richard Lee Bonebrake.

Services will be 1pm, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home, 3855 Katz Drive, Marion, IA 52302. Phone: (319) 377-1553. Service will be conducted by: Rev. Mark and Joyce Thomas of Central Assembly of God. Lunch will follow in the chapel. Irene requested a gravesite service at the Bonebrake gravesite at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion, however since the week-long rain has created dire conditions, we will hold the service at Murdoch Funeral home in Marion and will not be visiting the gravesite.

In Lieu of flowers and donations, the family requests that donations be made to your local Hospice who provided excellent care to both Irene and Ray Bonebrake.
