Helen Maxine Childers, 92, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Gospel Light Baptist Church, located at 305 2nd Avenue, in Marion, with an additional visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa.
Helen was born on May 20, 1933, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Alva Issac and Doris Belle (Brown) Crowe. She was a 1951 graduate of Hendrick High School. On December 23, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to Donivan Childers at his parents' home in rural Fremont, Iowa. She worked for Helbig Realty in Alburnett, Iowa, and volunteered at Iowa Christian Schools in Central City. Helen enjoyed gardening, canning, craft painting, cross stitching, and crocheting. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Helen is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 74 years, Donivan Childers of Central City; daughters, Dottie Moxom of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Childers of Central City, and Mary Lou (Rob) Cornoyer of Princeton, Indiana; son, James “Jim” (Sandra) Childers of Central City; seven grandchildren, Daniel Childers, Rebecca (Jonathan) Barber, David Childers, Cana (Justin) Caslavka, Robert Cornoyer, Katie Cornoyer, and Nathan (Amelia) Cornoyer; 14 great-grandchildren, Anna, James, Abigail, Becky, Samuel, Erin, Joel, Emily, Erika, Benjamin, Grace, Faithlynn, Hope, and Brighton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Grace Womack.
