Helen D. Haight, 81, of Manchester, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15 at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester by Rev. Kurt Pasko. Family will greet friends from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Helen was born January 30, 1926 in Manchester, the daughter of Ora L. and Myrtle B. (Haigh) Sickels. She graduated from the Manchester High School in 1943. On March 12, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to J. Donald Haight. She graduated from Young’s Beauty School in Cedar Rapids in 1963 and managed her own salon until she retired in 2006, due to her illness.
Helen attended First Baptist Church and Community Congregational Church, both in Manchester and was a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Helen is survived by two children, Lennie (Maria) Haight of Manchester and Virginia Pruetz of Victoria, TX; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Sickels of Sun City, FL and Bessie Curran of Dubuque.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ora & Myrtle Sickels; her husband, Donald Haight; a daughter, Linda Grogg; one grandson, David Pruetz; two brothers, Kenneth Sickels, Sr. and Harlan Sickels in infancy; and a son-in-law, Donald Pruetz.
