Henry C. Herman, 85, of 3070 3rd Street, Marion, died Saturday, October 22, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, by the Rev. James Adix of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Survivors include a sister, Norma Herman of Marion, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Albert Herman; a sister, Irma Herman; and three infant siblings (2 boys and one girl.)
On January 21, 1920, Henry was born to Theopheil and Emma (Schade) Herman in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Henry attended country school in rural Delaware County and also attended Manchester High School. He farmed for many years in the Manchester area, then worked for a short time at the Dubuque Packing Plant. After Henry moved to the Cedar Rapids area, he worked for Quaker Oats and retired from there in 1982. He volunteered at the Witwer Senior Center in Cedar Rapids and the Marion Senior Center.
