Ina King Smith, 81, of Burlington, IA, formerly of Las Cruces, NM, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. There will be no memorial or viewing. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion is in charge or arrangements. Ina will be buried in the Military Cemetery at Phoenix, AZ beside her beloved Joseph.
Born September 23, 1928, in Colorado City, TX, she was the daughter of Arthur James King and Mary Ann Lela Pierce-King. On September 19, 1964, she was married to Joseph Andrew Smith, in Dallas, TX. He died December 16, 1994.
In 1955, Ina joined the Dallas Chapter of National Association of Women in Construction, and subsequently was president of the various chapters in Lancaster-York, PA, and Spokane, WA. She was also past president of the Spokane Chapter of the Executive Women International, and at her death, was an active member of Chapter #169 Order of the Eastern Star, located in York, PA, having been installed originally in the East Dallas Chapter #715 OES.
She was a 1945 graduate of the Lubbock, TX High School, and was a graduate of Draughon Business College in Lubbock, TX. Ina had the pleasure of working in the Construction Industry all of her life, and retired in 1996 while living in Spokane, WA. After retirement, Ina moved to Fountain Hills, AZ, where she resided for many years, and during the latter years, she returned to the Texas/New Mexico area. Ina never lost her love of history, music, travel, and gourmet cooking.
Survivors include her son, Jon Arthur (Julie) Smith of Marion; grandchildren, Drew, Delaney, and Chase Smith; and a brother, James Paul King of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and other siblings.
