James Eugene Carnell, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Carnell of Cedar Rapids; children, Tina (Tony) Sykora of Cedar Rapids, and Jay (Patricia) Carnell of Valrico, Florida; grandchildren, Mike Sykora, Jayleen (Colin) Connor, Nicole (Josh) Mather, Lucas Carnell and Clint Carnell; siblings, Marie (James) Westerich of Kelso, Missouri, Erlien (Dan) Howie of Satellite Beach, Florida, Arline McClain of Red Bud, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Toni Sykora, Iaian Sykora, Chase Conner, Kierstyn Mather, Jesslyn Sykora and Nick Sykora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Clarissa Carnell; daughter Sandra Carnell; brother, Jr. Carnell; and sister, Rozella Mae Martins.
James was born on January 11, 1929, in Chaffee, Missouri, son of Jesse and Clarissa (Campbell) Carnell. On April 1, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ida McDonough. He was a 30 year maintenance supervisor for the City Water Department. James was a founder of the Metro Youth Football. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame for Metro Youth Football.
