James "Jim" Joseph Bean

James “Jim” Joseph Bean, 78, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.

Jim was born on September 26, 1947, in Ottumwa, the son of Charles and Mary (Fiscella) Bean. He was a 1965 graduate of Ottumwa High School. Jim worked as a Machinist for 28 years at Rockwell Goss in Cedar Rapids, before working at Bennett Machine Shop and Gateway Gardens, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, watching Western shows, going boating, and listening to music. Jim was very handy and considered a ‘jack of all trades’. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his loving family, Mike (Judy) Diedrick, Bob Diedrick, and Lisa Diedrick; and many grandkids and great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Memorials in Jim’s memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
