James “Jim” Moroney, 85, of Winthrop, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. Private Family Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 12, 2026, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home with Certified Celebrant Amy Hart officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Masonville.
Jim was born on December 14, 1940, in Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Irene (Lawless) Moroney. He graduated from East Buchanan High School. Jim worked for Harnischfeger Corporation, later known as Komatsu, and for Quaker Oats/PepsiCo in Cedar Rapids, where he worked until his retirement in 2005. Beyond his career, he devoted much of his time to working on the family farm near Winthrop.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed golfing. A social person by nature, he looked forward to card clubs at Hartridge Golf Course and competing in men’s pool leagues. He also found joy in watching classic westerns and spending time with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his children, Patrick J. (Debra J.) Moroney, Longview, Texas, Micheal S. Moroney of Las Vegas, Neveda and Melissa A. (Mark Florez) Moroney of Heath, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler Moroney of Arlington, Texas, Bret (Isabella) Palmer of Melissa, Texas, Kylie (Stephen) Hicks of Longview, Texas. Victoria Florez of Heath, Texas; great-grandchildren, Paxton Hicks, Hayes Palmer, Delilah Palmer, and Cole Hicks; and his nephew, Brad Moroney of Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Irene Moroney; and his brother, Ronald Moroney.
