James “Jim” Thomas Nurre, 58, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Celebration of Jim’s life is being planned for a later date.

Jim was born on January 27, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jim and Edna (Fitzsimmons) Nurre. A graduate of Kennedy High School in 1985, Jim worked as a union bricklayer, showcasing not only his craftsmanship but also his strong work ethic. Jim worked at Treehouse Foods (formerly Ralston Foods) for 18 years, where he continued to demonstrate the same dedication and reliability that marked his entire professional journey.

Jim held a profound love for the great outdoors. He cherished his time spent on the Wapsi and Cedar Rivers, where he engaged in fishing and hunting. His love for old Ford trucks, Broncos, and Jeeps demonstrated not just a hobby but a mechanical passion. Jim had a remarkable knack for working on his older vehicles, a talent that he took immense pride in and shared with those around him. He especially enjoyed mud running his Ford truck named “Cujo”. With a personality that was very patriotic, Jim always put others first, showing the ideals of kindness and always helping others. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments in life but also for the heartfelt connections he made with those fortunate enough to know him. Jim leaves behind a legacy of hard work, camaraderie, and unwavering support for his family, friends, and country.

Jim is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Edna Nurre of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Deb (Steve) Hicks of Cedar Rapids, and Lori Nurre of Robins; niece, Ashley Hicks (fiancé, Codi Proesch) of McKinney, Texas; an aunt, Glady McMellor of Cedar Rapids; and significant other, Jo Hook of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Nurre, and yellow lab dog named Jake.

Jim will always be remembered and loved.
