Jean M. Freese, 77, of 631 29th St. NE, Cedar Rapids and formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at her home. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by Chaplain Jeremy Hudson. Family will greet friends after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Wayne Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Amber.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Nancy) Freese of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one on the way; sisters, Virginia Soukup of Central City and Joan Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Freese; brother, Robert Lockwood; sister, Charlotte Henderson; and a niece, Carolyn.
Jean was born December 9, 1933, in Central City, the daughter of William R. and Bernice E. (Blodgett) Storey. She graduated from Central City High School and married Melvin Freese on January 16, 1955 in Anamosa. They later divorced. Jean worked as a buyer assistant at Rockwell Collins for 21 years, retiring in June, 1996.
Jean enjoyed being with family, traveling, reading, solving word puzzles, and watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs.
A memorial fund has been established in Jean’s name.
