Jim “Miz” Phillips, 98, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, April 23, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville, Iowa.
Jim was born on March 1, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Clarence and Ila (Edgeington) Phillips. He graduated from Franklin High School. Jim married Marie Shrope, with whom he had his son, Jeff. He later married Phyllis Means and, in later years, married Rose Anne Kollsmith on May 7, 2005, in Cedar Rapids.
Jim served honorably in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1952 and spent 50 years working for the Terry-Durin Company before retiring. Jim enjoyed playing sports in his younger years. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing and going to the casinos. He was also a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Anne Phillips; his son, Jeff (Bonnie) Phillips; his stepchildren, Ken (Kay) Kollsmith, Rick (Kathy) Kollsmith, Jean (Mike) Johnson, and Bob (Jodie) Kollsmith; and his grandson, Sean Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ila Phillips; his first wife, Marie (Shrope) Phillips; his second wife, Phyllis (Means) Phillips; his brother, Clarence; and his sister, Darlene.
