Jimmie Lee Blad passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The family will host a Memorial Service at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Calvary Community Church at 5245 Northland Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. Burial will follow immediately the service at Linwood Cemetery, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids. A luncheon will follow burial at 2 p.m. at the VFW Post 788, 3240 Southgate Place SW, Cedar Rapids.
Jimmie was born at home in Jesup, Iowa, on April 23, 1943. He graduated from Jesup High School in 1961. He was drafted into the Army in 1964. Jimmie served two years in combat zones in Cambodia and Vietnam. He then enlisted in a Medivac helicopter unit and later served in flight operations. Jimmie was highly decorated; he looked like a Christmas tree when wearing his dress uniform. Jimmie served for 20 years. As he was ready to retire, it was disclosed that his records, which were housed in St. Louis, Missouri, had been destroyed in a fire. He was given an age waiver and served two more years so he could receive his retirement pay. Jimmie was gifted in administration and organization. He held a variety of jobs to support his family and expand his knowledge. He loved to give of his time and money to those he saw in need, often giving to his own hurt. Jimmie will be fiercely missed.
He is survived by his present wife, Susan; his brother-in-law, Jim; his sister-in-law, Kathy; his daughter, Kimberly; and grandchildren, Michaela Blad, Brandon (Vanesa) Toomer, Paige (Jesse) Entsminger, Riley (Scott) Johnson, and Aidan; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also has three stepchildren. William, Johnathan, and Melissa Hofmeister; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was blessed with family.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Alder and Phoebe (Patton) Blad; and his siblings, Stella, Carl (Dolores), Jean, and Raymond.
