Joanne Kay Shedek

Joanne Kay Shedek, 73, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Anamosa Care Center. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Joanne’s life will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, where the family will greet friends from 12 p.m. until the service time. Certified Celebrant, Suzanne Seigel Renner will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Joanne was born on October 18, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin and Maxine (Pollock) Renfer. On August 29, 1986, Joanne was united in marriage to Kevin Glen Shedek in Central City. She was a homemaker for her family and also worked various jobs, until her retirement from ABC Childcare in 2015.

Joanne enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a local card club. She took great pride in gardening flowers and vegetables and dedicated time to making it beautiful. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who were the ‘apples of her eye’. Joanne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joanne is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 39 years, Kevin Shedek of Central City; three children, Jason McShane of Cedar Rapids, Emily McShane of Boston, Massachusetts, and Stephany (Justin) Waterhouse of Palo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Brody, Shae, Harper, Peyton, and Hudson; one great-grandson, Finn; siblings, Judy (Kenny) Kula of Central City, and Jerry (Linda) Renfer of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William and Larry Renfer.
