John Everett Henderson, 83, of Toddville, died August 13, 2007, at the home of his daughter in Alburnett, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion by Rev. Linda Livingston. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
John is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Eugene) Owens, Alburnett; sons, Tom (Kathy) Henderson, Cedar Rapids, Steve Henderson (Peggy Stewart) Toddville, Douglas (Maureen) Henderson, Marion; and a daughter-in-law, Diannia Henderson.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, E.J., Megan, Chris, Matt, Mike, Deb, Bobbi Jo, Tom Jr., Calvin, Elizabeth, Sabrina, Charity, Harmony & Dustin; and 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Ed (Mildred) Henderson, Lloyd (Phyllis) Henderson, Joyce Coblentz, Darlene (George) Ulferts, Bonnie (Dick) Luerkens; a special friend, Helen Hoge, Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lila, a son, John, a daughter, Sharon; daughter-in-law Susan; grandson Jeremy; brothers, Leroy and Laverne; sisters, Lillian McMurrin and Carolyn Corum.
John was born April 2, 1924 to Everett and Theresa (Appleby) Henderson in Hopkinton, Iowa. He married Lila (Boots) on November 4, 1942, in Kohoka, Missouri. He worked for Iowa Manufacturing for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
John enjoyed camping, blue grass music, bowling, horseshoes, and the many coffee klutches during the week. Family was the most important thing in his life.
For the last 13 years, he spent his winters in Apache Junction, Arizona and had resided during the last year at the home of his daughter, Barbara.
John will be missed by his multitudes of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John’s memory.
