John Joseph “Jack” Gillick, 89, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, with visitation one-hour prior. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Marion American Legion. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

Jack was born on August 4, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Earl and Gwendolyn (McMeel) Gillick. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Church, where he was an Altar Server and Usher.

Jack joined the United States Army in 1959, being stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Korea. He worked at Rockwell Collins, retiring after 36 years. He was also a member of the Marion American Legion, IBEW 1362, and the Cedar Boat Club, where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends on his boat at his boathouse.

In 1998, Jack married Charlotte “Char” Dickson Wink in Las Vegas, Neveda, with many family and friends in attendance.

Jack’s proudest moments were becoming a “Papa”. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, Kami and Kaitlin. He also enjoyed bowling, watching old TV shows/movies, doing jigsaw puzzles, and blowing through 1000-piece puzzles in no time. Jack was a collector of antiques, coins, and Cedar Rapids memorabilia. He loved going to auctions, tag and garage sales. At one time he was the Auctioneer’s Ringman. Jack was a quick-witted jokester, adding fun wherever he was.

Jack is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Char; granddaughters, Kami Henry and Kaitlin Wink; their mother, Marianne Wink; son, Eric (Kelly) Wink; in-laws, Joe (Laura) Dickson, Judy (Jerry) Moyle, Debbie Mundorf (Joel Brokaw), Diane (Pat) Kilburg, Mary (Bill) Waddle, John (Irene) Ford, Teresa Dickson; special niece, Sherri Gillick; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Margaret (Clyde) Bixby, Catherine Kay (Robert) Landrey, Betty Winn, Alyce (William) Ward, and Ed (Margaret) Gillick; in-laws, Alberta and Willis Dirks and Robert Dickson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, the VA of Cedar Rapids, especially Madison and Lori, and Father Jon Seda at St. Pius X Catholic Church for their loving care.
