John Reinhard Knussman, 81, of 2275 Country Club Drive, Marion, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion by Pastor Jerry Doellinger and Pastor Thomas Hedtke. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Marion; a son, Garry Knussman and wife Elizabeth of Santa Clarita, California; two daughters, Theresa Prochnow and husband, John, of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Linda Krug of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Betty Fulton of Farmington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Tami, Sonja, Brent, Kate and Meredyth; and three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Trent, and Grace Ann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard and Gladys (Archibald) Knussman.
John was born January 8, 1926, in Trivoli, Illinois. He served with the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII. On December 3, 1950, he married Darlene Williams in Cedar Rapids. John worked as an electronic lab technician at Collins Radio from 1950 -1971 and at J-Tech Associates from 1971-1991. He then worked part-time at Lynch, Dallas, Smith & Harmon from 1992 until his retirement in 2005.
John was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #298 of Marion, who will provide military honors.
John was a wonderful and loving husband and father. He was always there for his family. He will be truly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion; the American Cancer Society, or the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, in John’s memory.
