John Kulish
September 21, 1951 — January 3, 2018
John Kulish, 66, of Toddville, died unexpectedly while fighting advanced stage cancer. Visitation: 4 – 6 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Vigil Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home after the visitation. All are welcome to join the family for burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 375 32nd Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids.
John was born September 21, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the youngest child of Frank and Mary Kulish. He graduated from Marion High School and received his machinist certificate from Kirkwood. He married Kim Troendle on November 6, 1976.
John was a machinist at Iowa Man for five years and at Goss for 26 years. He later became a Microsoft Certified Technician.
He was very accepting of what life handed him. Although he was physically challenged he often excelled at everything he did. He always looked to the bright side, rarely complained, and seemed to be able to fix almost anything.
An extremely hard working, dedicated, loving husband and father, he had strength and character. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, loved spending time with family, and was thankful for good friends over the years. He enjoyed working on cars and engines, bonfires, problem solving, playing cards and was an avid Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Packers fan. He also had a couple special fur friends, Furby and Blackie.
John leaves behind, his wife, Kim, of 41 years; son, Keith; sister, Carol Ries of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Juli (Chris)Reed of Everett, WA, and Terri Crissinger of Mesa, AZ; brothers-in-law, Steve (Chris) Troendle of Swisher, IA, and Kevin Freeburg of Elkhorn, NE; and sister-in-law, Traci Freeburg of Omaha, NE. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his much beloved daughter, Keri in 2013; nephew, Darin Ries; two sisters; one brother; parents; in-laws and many good friends.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in John’s honor.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
