John B. Ryan, 59, of Shellsburg, died Friday, July 13, 2007, in his home, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Larry Daubs. The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Survivors include a daughter, Cassie Riha of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Jeremy; stepchildren, Julie Furnish, Dusty (Matt) Walker and Jim Furnish, all of Cedar Rapids; eight stepgrandchildren; his stepfather, Merle Porter of Marion; a brother, Kevin (Anna) Ryan of Central City; a sister, Jennifer Ryan of Cedar Rapids; an aunt, Patricia Stinger; a niece, Jamie Zdankus; and his best friend, Don Novak of Shellsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Zachary John Ryan.
He was born December 23, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Marie “Jackie” Brennan Ryan. During the Vietnam War, he served two tours of duty with the U.S. Army. He was a great man who loved his children and his family. With John, St. Patrick's Day was like Christmas. He always did the best he could do. John also loved old Chevy's and Harley's.
