John S. Trimble, 86, of 708 4th Avenue, Marion, died Monday, May 1, 2006, in his home after an extended illness. Private family graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion, with military honors. Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht will officiate. There will be no visitation but the family invites friends to a casual luncheon that will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at American Legion Post No. 298 in Marion. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Lorraine; his children, Janis (Dennis) Dollarhide of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jack (Cindy) Trimble of Cedar Rapids and Joanne Morris (Rick Sacora) of Marion; four grandchildren, Brenna Barney and Christopher, Jason and Corey Trimble; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Barney and Donovan and Cameron Trimble; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Kendra Christensen; and a sister, Verlee Andrle of Ely.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Veva Forrest.

John was born February 23, 1920, to John Schaefer Trimble and Beatrice F. (Thompson) Satterly in Cedar Rapids. John graduated from Marion High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 9, 1945, he married Lorraine J. Kramer in Chicago, Illinois. John was a carpenter most of his life and had worked at Harger?s Acoustical Ceilings. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, which will provide military honors.

Memorials in John?s memory may be directed to Lorraine at her home address and will be donated to Hospice of Mercy.
