Jody was born to George and Judy Bushlack on May 20, 1970, in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was the oldest of five children and quickly became an advocate for Jesus Christ. Jody lived her life as a testimony of her faith. She graduated from Marion High School in 1988. While in high school Jody was active in music and enjoyed sharing her musical gifts with others. Jody then attended Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas, where she continued her love for music and enjoyed being a part of the Young Ambassadors and the Ambassador Chorale. Jody graduated from Ambassador College in 1992. While there, she met her husband, David Sloan and they were united in marriage on August 9, 1992.

After graduation, Jody enjoyed her time as a computer science and history teacher at Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia. Upon moving to Iowa, she continued to spend time in classrooms as a substitute teacher in the Marion School District. Jody was blessed to become a mom to triplets, Ryan, Stacey, and Dawn on September 13, 2002. She was then blessed with Zachary on June 14, 2006. Jody welcomed her last son, Matthew, on September 12, 2009. She raised her children in the faith and shepherded them to love Jesus and trust in him. Jody could often be found volunteering for her kids’ many activities and never missed their events.

Jody had a heart for discernment and loved her time spent in God’s Word. She deeply loved her bible studies and time spent helping others grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Jody had a love for teaching Sunday School and teaching children about Jesus and his word. She outreached in her community as a volunteer with the Good News Club in Marion and was an active member of Cornerstone Church in Marion. Jody loved history and was proud to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also had a love for sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and scrapbooking. Many people were blessed with a blanket, quilt, scarf, or handmade gift by Jody. She loved cooking for her family and serving them in their needs. Jody loved music and loved her time worshiping her Lord and Savior with her voice. She blessed others with handwritten letters.
