Joseph Samuel Craig, 73, of 2178 Chandler Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, in his home, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Thomas McDermott. Family will greet friends from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Chris Craig of Houston, Texas, Bradley Craig and Jolene (Robert) Koranda, all of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Tiffany Craig of North Liberty; two sisters, Mary Adams of Albia, Iowa and Cecilia (Dave) Kosman of Weldon, Iowa; two brothers, John (Doris) Craig of Des Moines, Iowa and James (Cathy) Craig of Bettendorf, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Marge Craig of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene; his brother, Leo Craig; and a nephew, Paul Kosman.

Joe was born March 31, 1933, the son of Leo and Anna (Comer) Craig, in Georgetown, Iowa. On April 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Arlene Matney, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Georgetown. She died December 11, 1976. Joe operated the family farm until he was 36 years old. He then moved his family to Cedar Rapids, where he worked for the city and helped start the first labor union. Joe also worked for Iowa Manufacturing and Kirkwood Community College before retiring in 1990. He enjoyed raising his family and talking politics and sports. Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
