Joseph Dalecky, 87, of the West Ridge Care Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Sunday, January 7, 2007, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Randy Schiel. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Libby; two sons, Dennis (Donna) Dalecky of Cedar Rapids and Gary Dalecky of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Abigail (Roy) DeWitt of Cedar Rapids; and one great-grandson, Roy Andrew DeWitt. Also surviving are a step-brother, Jerry (Mary Ann) Viktora of Two Harbors, Minnesota; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Dalecky of Cedar Rapids and Mary Ann Hocken of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his adopted parents, Marie and Anton Ulovec; three stepsisters, Elsie Hill, Anne Dvorak, and Marcella Seaton; three brothers-in-law, Edward Machacek, Edwin Dvorak, and Delmar Hocken; and one sister-in-law, Anna Machacek.
Joseph was born January 12, 1919, in Yugoslavia, moving to America in 1922. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 during WWII. On March 4, 1946, he married Libby Machacek. A longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Joseph worked as a machinist and a quality control inspector for Cherry Burrell for 32 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the National Czeck & Slovak Museum & Library, the American Legion Hanford Post #5 and the UAW Local #1024.
