Joseph E. Kopish, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, December 20, 2025. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on January 15, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 p.m. on January 15, 2026, at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Joseph was born December 21, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Joseph P. and Shirlee A. (Bockert) Kopish. He attended school in Fort Dodge and went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Kirkwood Community College. He went on to work as an electrical engineer for Rockwell Collins for more than 20 years, retiring in 2009. Joseph was a member of Elks Lodge #251 in Cedar Rapids, where he served as Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed country line dancing, watching movies, tinkering with computers, and was an avid collector of all things.
Survivors include his children, Joseph D. (Angie) Kopish of Cedar Rapids, Jason L. Kopish (Craig Dietrich) of Hillsboro Beach, Florida, Ann M. (Brian) Ragsdale of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Justin Kopish of Cedar Rapids; his two grandchildren, Nathan Hansen and Trenton Kopish; four siblings, Jeffrey (Su) Kopish of Cedar Rapids, Sharyl Goyer of Palo, Iowa, Jack (Rhonda) Kopish of Marion, Iowa, and Susan (Art) Weaver of South Carolina; his furry companions, Cooper and Reggie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. and Shirlee Kopish; his brother, Jim Kopish; his brother-in-law, Chuck Goyer; and his lifelong best friend, Ed Pulda.
