Josephine Mary Matus, 92, formerly of rural Springville, died Monday, August 6, 2007, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, following a short illness. Services: 10:30, Friday, August 10, 2007, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Jim Brockman. Visitation will be from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 ?" 10:30 a.m., the day of service, at the church. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville.
Survivors include one son, Richard (Cheryl) Matus of Springville; one daughter, Mary (Bruce) Gronen of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; two sisters, Mary Pazour of Marion, Elizabeth (William) McCann of Fair Oaks, California.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Rich Matus of Ames, Dan Matus of Springville, Julianne Gronen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jennifer (Mark) Babione of Dover, Delaware, John (Kathy) Gronen of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Suzanne (Chris) Carroll of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Haydn and Greer Babione of Dover, Delaware, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Delphine Matus.
Josephine was born May 1, 1915, the daughter of Adolph and Marie (Stary) Pisney, in Marion, Iowa. She married Richard Frank Matus on July 17, 1940. He died on August 19, 1964.
She was a charter member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, where she was a religious education teacher and member of the St. Isidore’s Ladies Guild. She and her husband farmed in the Springville area for many years and were avid gardeners.
A memorial fund has been established in Josephine’s name.
