Juanita Pearl Norman, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Bickford Senior Living Center, Marion. Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Michael Metz. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Juanita fought Alzheimer’s disease for approximately 8 years and finally succumbed to the effects of the disease at Bickford Senior Living, Marion, where she had lived for almost a year and a half, in an apartment with her husband, Harry Norman.
Survivors include her husband of almost 74 years, Harry Norman, whom she married on November 24, 1941; children, Judith (Wayne) Husted and Nancy (Michael) Newsome; brother, Michael (Jacqueline) Forbes; sister-in-law, Patricia Day; grandchildren, Donna Lowe Finch, Edward (Nancy) Lowe, Douglas (Julie) Newsome, Michael (Debbie) Riddle and Gregory (Michelle) Renner; and many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an older brother, Richard Day; an infant brother, Dennis Forbes; and a granddaughter, Lawni Lowe Renner.
Juanita was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on February 6, 1924, to Bertram and Eva Day. She attended schools in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1941. Juanita and Harry both became members of the Kenwood United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
Juanita spent 67 years excelling in the sales field, as a dealer and manager of Stanley Home Products and Fuller Brush, until her illness overcame her. The people with whom she worked, were not just fellow employees, but quickly became her closest friends.
We want to thank the caregivers: the managers and staff of Bickford Senior Living, who gave more than their tireless energy and patience to Harry and Juanita and both of their pets living at Bickford with them, (Dad’s dog, Babe and Mom’s Cat, Sweetie). The Bickford personnel also lavished loving attention, beyond the call of duty, on Juanita and they now continue the same loving care for Harry.
Also, providing warmth and compassionate care during Juanita’s days of declining health, we want to thank Compassus Hospice Nurses. The gentle, tender, caring attention they gave to her, keeping her comfortable and pain free, was outstanding. We want to thank these nurses from the bottom of our hearts, for the respectful way in which they performed their difficult tasks.
In lieu of flowers, we request that any memorials be donated, in memory of Juanita, to the Alzheimer’s Association, to help find a cure for this dread disease: Alzheimer’s Assn. National Capital Area Chapter, 3701 Pender Drive Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22030; or please send a memorial in memory of Juanita to FUR FUN ANIMAL RESCUE, 108 South Washington Street, Lisbon, Iowa, 52253, if you love furry four legged children, the way our family does.
