Julie Moes, 92, of Central City, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026. Julie was born in Grand Island, NE on April 27, 1934, to Donald and Margaret McCutchan. Julie graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE and when she was 18, she travelled with her aunt on the Queen Mary overseas to attend a year of college in Tehran, Iran. She then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She played the cello in college and was active in community orchestra.

On January 17th, 1959, Julie married Ernest Moes in Seward County, NE and they moved to Cedar Rapids, IA the same year. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Toronto, Canada before settling near Central City. Ernest and Julie started farming in the Central City area in the early 1970’s and continued farming until they retired in 2005. Julie was a stay-at-home mother and an ancestry genealogist. She also volunteered for the Linn-Mar School District, 4-H, various historical societies and helped with several preservation projects over the years. She was also part of the Historical Preservation Grant Program that helped issue grants to historical projects throughout Linn County.

Julie is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren and has a great-grandson on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ernest and her parents.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Central City Clegg Library, Central City Historical Society or a charity of your choice.
