June Darlene Wittwer, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Bickford of Marion. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, with visitation beginning at noon. Certified Celebrant Amy Hart will officiate.
June was born on June 23, 1934, in Greenwood, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ted and Emma (Stigen) Braun. Following graduation, she moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to attend vocational school. While there, she met Jack Wittwer. The two were married on August 29, 1959, and after living briefly in New York and California, they settled in Iowa to be closer to family. It was here that June and Jack made their lifelong home and raised their daughter, Wendy. Their journey together spanned 54 years, until Jack’s passing in 2013.
June found joy in many things, including going to garage sales, gardening, baking, playing cards, listening to music, playing the piano, and especially being a mom and grandma. But where there was June, there usually was Jack. Together, they shared a love of camping, traveling, boating, polka dancing, brandy old fashioneds, hosting parties, the Green Bay Packers, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. They were also active members of Hope United Church of Christ for over 50 years. Lifelong friendships and close family ties meant the world to June and Jack. They made a point of staying connected, visiting often, and nurturing the relationships they treasured throughout their lives. As Jack neared retirement, they purchased a lake cabin in Wisconsin, where they loved hosting family and friends. Above all, their greatest joy was being parents to Wendy and grandparents to Brooke.
June is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Wendy (Kevin) Mease of Marion; granddaughter, Brooke Mease of Ames, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Wittwer; sister, Shirley Humke; and brother, Allan Braun.
June will be remembered not only for the way she lived her life, but for the love she shared with others. She treasured the people in her life and was known for her gentle, sweet spirit, generous heart, sharp wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Her kindness came naturally, and she had a special way of making those around her feel loved and welcome. June was truly one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials in June’s memory may be directed to Camp Courageous, located at 12007 190th Street, Monticello, Iowa 52310, or Critter Crusaders at P.O. Box 10111, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52410-0111.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bickford of Marion and St. Croix Hospice for their compassion and loving care of our June Bug, as well as the many dear friends who offered their love, kindness, and support. We are forever thankful.
