Karen Marie Seltrecht, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Private Family Inurnment will take place at a later date at Troy Mills Cemetery.
Karen came into this world on February 28, 1941, on the family farm, south of Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Long) Fuessley. She graduated from Troy Mills High School, where she participated in several activities, including basketball. She said she was better than most boys. In her teens, she rode through the timber to the Wapsi River and then across the Wapsi River and who knows where else! She and Carl met while cruising Main Street in Center Point, Iowa, and three years later, they were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. A 65-year BLAST! Karen raised three ornery sons, Eric, Bret, and Bart, whom she loved dearly.
She had several jobs, notably Pleasant Valley Schools, Camp Wapsie, Parsons Tech (Go Daddy), St. Luke’s, and ran her own business from home with her computer. Karen was a great cook, even made her own cookbook. Two of her families’ favorites were fried pork chops and gravy and “Fuessley Potato Salad”. Her hobbies included photography and she had many of her photos framed. Karen made birthday and holiday cards and more. She was an avid sports fan. Her favorites were the “Cubbies” and the “Hawkeyes”. Besides baseball, she also enjoyed watching tennis and basketball. Karen also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting, and playing games. She loved her “special buddy”, Edgar. Karen was a wonderful, light-hearted lady with a keen wit who loved to laugh and have a good time. A unique soul we all will miss dearly. Go Cubs Go!
Survivors include her husband, Carl; sons, Eric and Bart; two special “granddaughters”, Kelsey and Cassidy and their families; her game club buddies in Troy Mills; the light of her life, “Edgar”; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her into the afterlife were her parents; son, Bret; siblings, Gale, Gary, and Rita; and many other relatives and friends.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Mercy who cared for her in her final days.
Condolences may be sent to Karen’s family at 280 Grand Avenue, Marion, Iowa 52302 or to the funeral home. Karen would have appreciated a donation to the Cancer Society in her name.
