Katherine Eileen (Tritle) Vanis

Katherine Eileen Vanis, 88, of Central City, died November 9, 2013, at Winslow House in Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, with a Scripture Service beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City with military honors provided by Central City Amvet Post No. 37.

Survivors include two sons, John (Diane) Vanis and Jim Vanis, both of Central City; five grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Vanis, Mark (Amanda) Vanis, Vanessa (Randy) Husman, Nathan (Jamie) Vanis, and Kyle Vanis; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Vanis; and two brothers, Carl Tritle and Ivan Tritle.

Katherine was born February 15, 1925, the daughter of John and Vivian (Billings) Tritle in Alburnett. She graduated from Alburnett High School. On August 6, 1947, she married Vincent V. Vanis at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. He died April 25, 2007. Katherine served with the U.S. Army during WWII with the Medical Corp.
