Kathleen “Kate” Harmening, 73, of Marion, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion conducted by Deacon Sean Smith. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Kate was born February 6, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Samuel and Hazel (Dunn) Taylor. On December 28, 1963 in Madison, Wisconsin she was united in marriage to Steven Harmening. Kate was employed at Rockwell Collins for many years until her retirement. Following her retirement, she and Steve opened Harmening Haus Antiques in Marion. Kate’s greatest love of all was her family. She gave all of them incredible amounts of love and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Steve of Marion; four children, Lisa (Michael) Kellison of Marion, Susan (Adrian) Harmening-Gomez of Linganore, Maryland, Sheryl (Michael) Swanson of Mairon, and Sam Harmening of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Jenny, Kathleen, Steve, Liz, Lucas, Lily, and Ella; and five great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Kyle; and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association in Kate’s memory.
