Kay A. Kalvig Heddinger, 83, of Marion, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pursuant to Kay's wishes there will be no public funeral service or visitation. There will be a family/close friends graveside service with interment at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton, IA.
Kay was born December 17, 1941, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was the daughter of Leander and Jeanette (Whipple) Kalvig. Kay married Harold A. Heddinger on January 11, 1963, in Vinton, Iowa, at the Wesley United Methodist Church. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, moving to Marion in 1964.
Kay graduated in 1960 from Washington High School in Vinton, attended Cedar Rapids Business College for one year, and gained employment at the Cedar Rapids Community School District in the Accounting Department, retiring in 1995. Kay and Harold opened and operated Kay's Carousel gift shop in Marion, closing the store when deciding they wanted to enjoy retirement. They enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Kay was a member of the Marion Methodist Church and several organizations during her school years, her boy's school years, and her work years. She enjoyed keeping a well-manicured yard and a clean, organized home. She always said, "You save time to take time to get organized". Kay had a love for all the pets she and her family had through the years, dogs: Skippy, Spot, Helms, Doxey, and Cats: Beau, Meggie, and Buffy.
Survivors include son, Jeffrey (Laurie) Heddinger of Farmington, Minnesota, son, Bradley (Dianna) Heddinger of Loves Park, Illionis; grandchildren, Leah Heddinger of Eagan, Minnesota, Anna Heddinger of Farmington, Minnesota, and Eric Heddinger of Rapid City, South Dakota; cousins, Mark (Jackie) Whipple of Hampton, Iowa, Erin Whipple of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Teresa (Mark) Czaja of Sammamish, Washington, Charles Phillips of Tucson, Arizona, Chris (Jane) Kalvig of Covington, Washington; aunt, Ellen Kalvig of Shoreline Washington; sister-in-law, Bernadine Hamlett of Manchester, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 2004; parents; and sister, Janet Kalvig.
