Kenneth Dennis Taylor, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of heart failure. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at Springville Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Military honors provided by Springville American Legion Post #331. The family will greet friends 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, and at the church, one hour prior to the funeral.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Dee Taylor of Marion and Linda (Jim) Kipp of Cedar Rapids; and two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Kipp of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; parents; two brothers; a son who died at birth; and a granddaughter, Angela Kipp.
Kenny was born May 27, 1921 on a farm north of Marion, the son of W. Dennis and Bessie (Hagerman) Taylor. They moved to Springville when he was eight years old. On January 17, 1942, he married Carol Elizabeth Burroughs. They lived in the Springville area for 50 years before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1992. Carol died on November 9, 2009.
Kenny served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a rural mail carrier in Springville until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing cards. Kenny was a stickler for good grammar and wasn’t afraid to correct anyone who misspoke! He was a member of the Springville American Legion Post #331. Kenny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the folks at Higley Mansion Care Center, where he resided the past month.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Kenny’s name to the Springville Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
