Kenneth I Smith, 80, of 1038 16th Street, NE, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in his home, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2006, at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Duane Hix. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bernice; his sons, Dennis (Nancy) of Audubon, Iowa, David (Sue) of Cedar Rapids; and Keith of La Quinta, California; six grandchildren, Greg (Leah), Lyndi, Sarah, Brian, Kayla and Abigail; a great-grandson, Gavin; and two sisters, Dorothy Morris of Walker, Iowa, and Harlene Bray of Kenmore, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clarence.

Kenneth was born October 25, 1925, the son of Harland and Gladys (Robinson) Smith, in Linn County, Iowa. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. On January 14, 1948, Kenneth was united in marriage to his dear friend, Bernice M. Novotny in Cedar Rapids. For 43 years, he worked for Iowa Manufacturing as a crane operator. Kenneth was a member of the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, the Machinist Union Local 836 and a charter member of 012 Square Dance Campers Group.

He enjoyed his cabin at Stone City, being a snowbird to Mission, Texas, and pulling his 5th wheel to California to see his grandchildren. Kenneth loved spending time with his wife, sons, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church or Camp Courageous in memory of Kenneth.
