Kevin Paul Dawson, 51, of 214 Troy Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 25, 2008, in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Dr. Terry Seufferlein of Central Church of Christ. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids
Survivors include his children, Ryne Dawson and Renee Dawson, both of Gilbert, Arizona; a brother, Craig (Tonya) Dawson of Willowpark, Texas; a sister, Linda Schooley of Marion; three nephews; a niece; his former wife, Joni (Terry) Strain of Casa Grande, Arizona; his former-in-laws, Wayne and Ruth Duede of Cedar Rapids; and his stepmother, Janie Dawson of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stuart.
Kevin was born September 25, 1956, the son of Kenneth and Pauline (Langham) Dawson, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1974 graduate from Washington High School, he married Joni Mefferd in 1982. They later divorced. Kevin worked at Maytag for over 20 years.
Kevin was the proud father of two wonderful children, son, Ryne and daughter, Renee. His happiest times were watching his children grow up. Kevin loved playing ball with them and spent many nights in the yard playing catch or shooting hoops. He coached Ryne’s little league teams and Renee’s basketball teams. In their later years, you would always find Kevin in the stands cheering them on. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Kevin.
