Kyle David Cross, 90, of Cedar Rapids died January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.

Kyle was born August 25, 1935, in Westgate, Iowa. He graduated from Oran High School in 1953 and joined the Army shortly after. While on leave from Fort Carson, Colorado, he married Dolores Elizabeth Renzo in Waterloo, Iowa on June 1, 1955. Later that year he was deployed to Korea for a year, during which time his first daughter, Sharon, was born. After being discharged in 1956, he returned to Waterloo and served in the Army National Guard while working for Rath Packing Company for the next 9 years. Daughters Kimberly and Debra were born during this time and on Christmas 1964 he received his most treasured gift, son Scott.

In 1966 Kyle became a federal meat inspector and worked for the USDA in Cedar Rapids for the next 30 years. When his children entered high school, he became active in Jefferson Band Parents and Jefferson Booster Club, spending many years working the concession stands at Kingston Stadium. He was inducted into the Booster Club's Hall of Fame in 1995. He also served on the board of First Federal Credit Union and in later years was heavily involved in the VFW. When not working, volunteering, or spending time with family, you could usually find Kyle at his favorite fishing hole.

Kyle is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolores; daughters, Sharon (Gary) Coquillette, Kim (Twyla Hein) Cross, Deb Valenta, and son, Scott (Peggy) Cross; grandchildren, Brandon (Jennifer) Schroeder and Stuart Schroeder, Joe Valenta and Sarah (Ryan) Reisdorph, Ethan Cross and Anna (Hugh) Symons; great-grandsons, Lucas, Levi, Liam, and Leo Schroeder; brother, James Cross (George Fisher) and sisters, Nadine (Virgil) Erhardt and Marlene Werner, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Leona Cross; parents-in-law, Frank and Mary Renzo; brothers-in-law, George Werner and Richard Renzo; and sister-in-law Nancy Renzo.
